Viaduct Access

The Röntgenstrasse / Gleisfeld Atlas as well as the Letten viaduct offer an insight into the transformation of an area after its railway infrastructure has disappeared. With the potential redirection of the trains driving over the viaduct the question arose of how this will alter the experience of Zürich.
The viaduct as a city space runs from the train station Wipkingen to the Langstrasse tunnel. Accessibility is the project's starting point towards this multilayered, multi-contextual space. The formulation of the access moment is crucial to involve such space within the fabric of the city.
The three Access towers are designed to cope with the different height levels of the viaduct. Additionally, they serve as observation towers. The formulation of the architecture contrasts with the vertical language of the street. The black contrasts the sky during daylight and the porosity allows the illuminated elevators to be moving light within the night.
